Is Anyone Thirsty?

John 7:37-44

 The crowds were constrained by enmity of the Temple hierarchy against Jesus. Whether their impressions were complimentary or critical of Jesus, they were afraid to say anything too loudly for fear of being drawn into the conflict.  In any case, the undercurrent remained speculative. Arguments were made on Jesus’ behalf or against Him but the people had assumed their right to sit in judgment as if they were deciding whether to cast their vote for or against Jesus as Messiah. These speculations left out the implications of the vote, and failed to ask, if Jesus is the Messiah, what does this mean to me? They were drawn in by the raging controversy and they were curious about the possible outcomes. They may have even felt an admiration for Jesus’ courage and a respect for His teaching but they remained by standers and they were not spiritually thirsty.
